It’s been a minute since I’ve written. Not for lack of anything to write about, though!
Last weekend I went to Long Island to visit the parental units and to celebrate my little cousins 4th birthday. Shenanigans ensued, drinks were had, laughs were shared and food was eaten. It was a great time, as always!
What’s up with me? Well, I’ve been fairly down in the dumps since yesterday, but I’m surprisingly being positive about my situation.
I’ve been on unemployment for the past six months. Turns out that federal funding for benefit extensions have not been approved. Therefore, I am cut off from payments after my next check. I’ve applied to a variety of jobs for the past six months and have gotten zero calls and zero interviews.
After a moment of self indulgent panic and depression, I picked myself up, had a cup of tea, and got to job hunting.
I’ve gotten one e-mail from a life insurance company and one call from a headhunter recruiter.
Fingers crossed for me, readers.
So, anyone watch Orange is the New Black season 2 yet? I’ve finished the season and would love to hear your thoughts and views on it.
Now, on to the good stuff!
Last week I did a little shopping with a couple of girlfriends.
Out first stop was Ulta. I had a coupon for 20% off one product and an $11 credit from their points. I ended up purchasing four NYX lippies for only $12 out of pocket. Look at me! Being all super saver-ish!
This is the first Butter Lipstick by NYX that I’ve purchased. I adore this product. It goes on smoothly, it’s moisturizing and the color is vibrant.
This! Right here! This! I have been obsessed with violet lippies for a few weeks now. I discovered this gorgeous color on a beauty guru on youtube. I am so happy that I got this. These tend to be slightly drying, so I’ll have to moisturize the lips before application.
Those of you who know me, know I am obsessed with NYX matte lipsticks. I just think they’re wonderful.
I was only slightly disappointed with this product. I was really hoping for a vibrant color payoff. It’s definitely hydrating. It’s just not what I was looking for.
After Ulta, we went to Forever 21. I’ve heard incredibly things about their bathing suits. I’m already a believer in their Plus Size clothing, as I have several dresses from them already. I’ve never been particularly fond of bathing suit shopping, but I went in there with a super positive attitude.
This is the swim suit I bought, and I’ve already worn it. I love it. I love the versatility with the straps and I love, love, love the mint color. It’s comfortable and looks good.
Here it is, ladies and gentlemen! The first Fatkini I have ever tried on! I ended up purchasing this but, sadly, will be returning it. I tried it on at home and the sisters just aren’t happy in this top. Big boobs and halter top equals a sore neck.
In conclusion: Summer is hot. It’s muggy. It’s chock full of 90 degree days. If you’re fat, fabulous, and you know it.. wear whatever bathing suit you want. It is not up to any one else to decide what is right for your body. I’m in search of an awesome fatkini. I will wear it, and if you don’t like my thighs touching, stretch marks, cellulite and large and in charge stomach, please look elsewhere.
The next stop in our shopping excursion was Fashion To Figure. My friend pointed out that there was another plus sized store in the mall. I said, “Great! Let’s go!” Ironically, I just viewed a youtube video featuring a woman’s haul from this store. I wasn’t expecting on purchasing anything. Honestly, I wasn’t. But, if the dress fits. Buy it. So I did.
We walked in the store and made it all the way to the back without me picking something up to try on. This has polka dots. Bright pink polka dots. I had to try it on. I put it on and instantly fell in love. I said “Oh my gosh,” and stepped out of the fitting room. The second I saw my friends faces, I knew I had to purchase this dress. Ah-mazing. And so insanely affordable! I love Torrid to pieces but this same dress would have easily been $60 at their store. I wore it that night and got more compliments! What a great piece.
Let’s talk about Fashion To Figure. I am absolutely loving their body positive and body confident way of business. They write positive messages of self body love on the doors to the dressing room and sign the customers name at the bottom. I was in awe. What a lovely message with fashionable and affordable clothing. This will definitely be one of my favorite stores to shop at!
I picked up a pair of plain black flats with a string bow at Target for $19.99 to go with the new polka dot dress. I didn’t take any photos of those. It’s pretty self explanatory.
Anyway, that was my shopping trip with my ladies. It was fun and thrilling.
You know, once you start to really love your body, shopping is a lot of fun.
Keep it positive and happy, everyone.
